About the owner
Founded by passionate reader Shannon, The Lakewood Bookstore is a vibrant hub for bibliophiles and a celebration of the power of stories. Inspired by her lifelong love of books and dedication to community, Shannon created this haven to bring people together through the written word.
With a Master's in History from the University of Nebraska-Kearney and two decades as a military spouse, Shannon’s journey has been shaped by service, resilience, and the connections books foster. Honored with awards like the Shield of Sparta and the Margaret C. Corbin Award, her commitment to community is at the heart of everything The Lakewood Bookstore represents.
Since moving to Lakewood in 2018, Shannon has continued to share her belief that books build friendships and forge lasting bonds. The Lakewood Bookstore is more than a shop—it’s a place where stories and community come together in perfect harmony.

JOSHUA: An avid reader of all thing's science-fiction and fantasy, Joshua loves to chat with customers about their favorite new reads and give recommendations. Coming from a military family, Joshua moved to Washington in 2016 and attended high school in Lakewood at Lakes High School and went to college at Gonzaga University. For those who also love exploring new worlds and going on fantastical adventures, Joshua is always excited to hear about your literary journeys!
ALEX: Grew up on the other side of the mountain around DnD, Harry Potter, Star Wars and other nerdy media that sparked their love of fantasy and sci-fi books and video games. They also like hanging out in fandom spaces to talk to other fans and see other people's perspectives and fan theories.
CHELSEA: A lifelong purveyor of indie bookstores, Chelsea grew up going to Puget Sound literary cornerstones. She truly believes in small businesses and their role as a pillars of the local community. In books, her one true love is Science Fiction, but she'll happily chat about Romance, Horror, Fantasy, and anything in between!
